Rendering Internal & External
Rendering is the name for the application of mortar onto brickwork to achieve a solid, waterproof surface. Internal rendering usually consists of applying a scratchcoat to interior brickwork walls, followed by a top coat which is then ruled off and ‘floated’ to achieve a flat surface in preparation for finish coat plastering.
External rendering would involve the same methods as you would apply when rendering internally. However, exterior rendering doesn’t need a finish coat because it ‘is’ the finish coat.
Types of Rendering
Traditionally, rendering materials were sand, lime and cement. Nowadays there are numerous synthetic products we can apply to the exterior of your home such as through colour rendering or K-rendering, monocouche rendering and insulated render systems. Not only do these modern renders provide waterproof surfaces, they are self colouring, provide insulation and also transform the look of your home completely without the need to re-paint the exterior of your home every couple of years.
